The Kodaikanal International School Global Involvement Group (KIS GIG) is interested in being an important part of tackling child abuse and its related problems. Most of the students in this group are from Asian countries where there are child labor problems and other gross abuses. Asia is also experiencing growing family instabilities, especially in regards to divorce that exacerbates the abuse of children.
These abuses also increase the probability that many children will seek escape through drugs and will face unemployment problems. It becomes a viscous cycle as many abuse victims grow up to be abusers themselves.
We, in the KIS GIG hope to become an integral part of the Junior Summit 1998. This can help us become a part of a potpourri of ideas and sources to enable us to impact not only our local area, but effect global changes.
Currently, our ideas entail engaging in a dialogue with interested parties and hopefully world leaders. We would establish a WEB site as a focal point for our global activity. This WEB site would incorporate digital imagery (photos and possibly filmage). From this site, we would seek to inform people from around the globe concerning the plight of many children, seek input concerning areas of abuse, and publish suggested means to help alleviate the abuses and their related problems. We also hope to be able to garner celebrity/VIP support to lend weight to this activity (endorsements, interviews, etc.).
